SEASTAR will facilitate the placement of trainees aboard Tall Ships in the summer of 2009. We anticipate that there will be several opportunities:
  1. Voyages aboard one or more of the vessels involved in the 2008 Pilot program, dates and voyage details yet to be determined
  2. Voyages, of varying length, aboard several vessels participating in the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge, 2009.

In 2009 the Tall Ships will return to Halifax. The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 involves several race legs:

April 30 - May 3
Vigo, Spain – Tenerife, Canary Islands
May 14 -17
Tenerife
June 12 – 15
Bermuda
July 8 – 13
Boston, USA
July 16 – 19

August 13-16

Opportunities for placements aboard Tall Ships include the 25 day trip from Halifax to Belfast, Northern Ireland with the possibility of shorter voyages inbound to Nova Scotia eg one week Boston to Halifax, as well as shorter trips of up to a week outbound from Halifax to the Nova Scotia outports: Port Hawkesbury, Sydney, Pictou, Lunenburg, Shelburne and Yarmouth. SEASTAR will also try to assist trainees interested in placement aboard a vessel for any of the legs of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge.

Potential participants for 2009 should complete the application form, including the Participant Disclaimer, attached, and submit it to The SEASTAR Society. Applicants are advised that the vessels themselves may require a separate application and waiver as well as various accompanying documents. Those potential trainees interested in a voyage which starts or finishes outside Canada should also be aware that they will need a valid passport.
